Some plumbing problems can be massively destructive to your home or business, such as flooding or burst pipes. But most of the time, you’re going to struggle with much smaller and more common problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news is, they’re easy to avoid by taking just a few preventative measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Dripping Faucets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Faucets comes in four varieties: compression, ball type, ceramic disk, and cartridge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dripping faucet is due to a poor seal. For a cartridge, ceramic disk, or ball type faucet, the problem is simply that the O-ring or neoprene seal needs to be replaced. These are very inexpensive and can be picked up at any hardware store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A compression faucet, on the other hand, is almost guaranteed to drip eventually. These depend on rubber washers to seal the valve, which inevitably wear out with heavy usage and need to be replaced from time to time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In both cases, the best way to prevent a problem is to take it easy on your faucet. Don’t use force to close it. If you find you need to use force to stop the drip, your faucet needs to be fixed. It’s only a matter of time before it will drip non-stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
